Imagine Being Clutter Free by Sharon Crosby One of the most difficult things many face in getting clutter free has been staying motivated. Like others, maybe you've been psyched up to get organized and make your home look great. Only to later find that psyched up feeling has fizzled. Many believe that unless you have the kind of motivation that will sustain itself then that's that. "You either have it or you don't." In reality creating sustainable motivation is an art...the secrets of which few know of. I'll tell you of one very successful technique used by many with great results (although few have used it for clutter). Sustainable motivation often results because you want something badly enough. You want to be clutter free...but how badly? Do you want it so badly you can 'almost taste it'? Or does it seem like an itch or fever? Maybe these examples are a little strong, but if you want to truly transform your home and life, it's best if your desire comes close to these descriptions. What if you're desire isn't that strong? You can 'artificially' inflate desire. How? By thinking about it, daydreaming about it, writing about it, creating doodles on notepads about it. Whatever. The more you think about something, the more you sigh about it because you don't have it, the more you decide you've got to have it, the more you will finally push yourself to do something to get it. What you want to do is get obsessed by the idea of becoming clutter free. You have a kernal of desire to have a comfortable, pleasant, clutter free and organized home. Let that desire turn into an obsession! Don't be shy about it. There is a part of you that wishes for this. Let that part have it's secret wish. Again and again I have come across many people who have used their imaginations to achieve success. Well known athletes and those in the business world are among them. Arnold Schwarzenegger is a prime example of someone who became a success through this technique. He used his imagination to not only become a champion body builder, but to become a number one-box-office-star in Hollywood as well. Something few other than himself once believed he could do. Here's a quote from Schwarzenegger for how he has become successful in many of his endeavors. "What you do is create a vision of who you want to be, and then live into that picture, as if it were already true." Sound too simple? Maybe so, but those few people who do it often get amazing results. Can using the imagination help anyone successfully become clutter free? Has anybody tried it? I have. My desire and motivation to keep on working to become clutter free was largely propelled by the times I've tried to 'live into that picture' of a clutter free home. How can you do this yourself? Close your eyes. Imagine what it would be like for your home to be clutter free. What would it look like in each room, each corner, on the table tops, etc? What would it smell like? How would it make you feel? Imagine people coming over and exclaiming how great your home looks. Imagine telling yourself how great it looks. The more detail, the more real you make it seem to yourself, the better. Also, the more you practice imagining it the better. It will become more real to you as you imagine it more and more. It will also serve as a reminder to yourself as to what you really want your place to be like. And it will feed your desire which will increase your motivation. And when you have your motivation you will have what you need to keep going. Copyright
