Does Being
Clutter Free Please You Enough? by Sharon Crosby In my previous article, Crazy Enough, I spoke of noticing the differences of those who are cluttered and those who are not. I have noticed uncluttered people LOVE having a home that looks nice, tidy, clutter free, etc. They get a lot of enjoyment out of how their home looks. While I liked how my home looked when it was uncluttered, I didn't derive a great deal of enjoyment from it either. It didn't seem to matter too terribly. I'd think, "It isn't too messy." Then shrug my shoulders and move on to something more interesting than the jumbled clothes spilling out the closet door. But here I was making a mistake about not fully enjoying the pleasures of having things look good. I also ignored other pleasures such as being able to find my keys within five seconds...instead of the usual fifteen minutes. I didn't know that by focusing my thoughts repeatedly on how good it could feel to have a clutter free home that could motivate me to take action and finish. Not just start...only to stop again. If we can increase the sense of pleasure we get at the idea of having a home that is organized and clutter free we will become more motivated. There is more incentive, from within ourselves, to make the needed changes to get and have a clutter free home. If you have been wanting to get organized, but don't seem to ever really do anything about it here is a key to changing that. We are more likely to get something done when we are convinced that the result will really please us. That the result will make us feel really good. The stronger that belief the more likely we are to actually take, and complete, the needed actions. So take some time to focus on the pleasing aspects of having a clutter free and organized home. Think about what you would like about that. Then convince yourself you would LOVE that. Talk to yourself, and maybe to others who are supportive, about how much you'd enjoy seeing the clear tabletops and counters. How enjoyable it will be to find things easily. Imagine what that will be like in your mind. Think about how great it would feel until the sensation becomes as enjoyable as the thought of vacationing in Barbados or Cancun. Until the thought of having a an organized or clutter free home becomes so great that you can't wait to get started! Just thinking about the pleasure of what it will be like to be clutter free can spur you to actually turn that thought into a reality.
